There was a young man, you know,

ある若い男がいた。

who wanted to make a lot of money

男には大金を稼ぎたいという想いがあった。

and so he went to this guru, right.

そこで師匠の元を訪ねて、こう言った、

And he told the guru you know I wanna be on the same level

「あなたと同じレベルになりたいのです」。

you are and the guru said

すると師匠は、

if you wanna be on the same level I’m on,

「もし君が私と同じレベルになりたいのなら、

I’ll met you tomorrow at the beach.

明日、ビーチに来なさい」と言った。

So the young man got there 4 A.M. he already to rock n’ roll.

男は翌朝の４時にビーチにいた。やる気満々で、

Got on a suit should of wore shorts.

スーツを着ていた。半袖にすれば良かったのだが。

The old man grabs his hand and said:

すると、老人は男の手を握り、こう言った

How bad do you wanna be successful?

「君の成功したい気持ちはどれくらいだ？」

He said: “Real bad”.

男はこう答えた「本気で成功したい。」

He said: Walk on out in the water.

「では海へ来なさい」。

So he walks out into the water. Watch this.

そう言うと老人は海へと入っていった。

When he walks out to the water

男も海へと入り、

he goes waist deep

腰の高さまで来た時思った

and he’s like “this guy crazy.”

「この老人は狂ってる」。

Hey I wanna make money and he got me out here swimming.

「俺はお金が稼ぎたいのであって、泳ぎに来たんじゃない。

I didn’t ask to be a lifeguard.

別にライフガードになりたいと頼んだ覚えは無い」

I wanna make money he got me in

「金が稼ぎたいんだ」。

so he said come on a little further

すると、老人は言った「もっと奥へ来なさい」。

walked out a little further

さらに進むと、

then he had it right around this area

どんどんと深くなっていった。

the shoulder area

終いには、男の肩の深さにまでなった。

so this old man crazy

「この老人はイカれてる」

he making money but he crazy.

「金は稼ぐが、イカれてるんだ」。

So he said come on out a little further came out a little further,

老人は言った「もっとだ。もっと奥へ来なさい」。

it was right at his mouth

ついに、男の口の深さにまでなった。

my man, I’m not about to go back in,

「俺はこれ以上無理だ」

this guy is out of his mind.

「この老人は完全にイカれてる」

And the old man said:

すると、老人は

“I thought you said you wanted to be successful?”

「君は本気で成功したいのではないのか？」と尋ねた。

He said: “I do.”

「もちろん」

He said: “Then walk a little further.”

老人は続ける、「ならば、もっと奥へ来なさい」。

He came, dropped his head in, held him down,

老人は男の頭を掴み、海に沈め、押さえつけた。

hold him down, my man (kept scratching) hold him down,

さらに抑え、沈め続けた。

he had him held down, just before my man was about to pass out,

男が気絶する寸前まで押さえ続け、

he raised him up.

寸前で引き上げた。

He said: “I got a question for you.”

老人は言った「君に一つ質問がある」

He told the guy, he said:

“When you want to succeed as bad as you wanna breathe than you will be successful.”

「君が今、息をしたいと思うのと同じくらい成功したいと思えて、

初めて成功するんだ。」

I don’t know how many of you all got asthma here today?

「喘息を持った人が何人いるかは知らないが、

If you ever had a asthma attack

もし発作が起きたら、

before your short of breath S.O.B shortness of breath,

息が出来なくなる、

you wheezing (breath sound)

ゼーゼーなる、

the only thing you trying to do is get some air.

息をすること以外、何も考えられなくなる。

You don’t care about no basketball game,

バスケの試合のことも、

you don’t care about what’s on T.V.,

テレビ番組のことも、

you don’t care about nobody calling you,

誰からも電話が無いことも、

you don’t care about a party.

パーティーのことさえ気にならなくなる。

The only thing you care about

唯一考えられることは、

when you trying to breathe is to get some fresh air.

死にものぐるいで新鮮な空気を吸うことだけ。

That’s it!

それだけだ！

And when you get to the point

そのレベルまで行けた時、

where all you wanna do is be is successful as bad as you wanna breathe

息をしたいと思うぐらい強く、

成功すること以外に何も考えられなくなったら、

then you will be successful.

そこで初めて成功出来るのだ。

And I’m here to tell you that number one,

今日ここに来たのは、お前に一番大切なことを伝える為だ。

most of you say you wanna be successful

たいていの奴は「成功したい」と言うが、

but you don’t want it bad,

そこまで強く成功したいなんて思っていない。

you just kind of want it.

何となくそうなりたい、程度だ。

You don’t want it bad than you wanna party.

パーティーをしたい気持ちより強くないし、

You don’t want it as much as you want to be cool.

格好良くなりたい気持ちより強くない。

Most of you don’t want success as much as you want sleep.

たいていの奴は、睡眠を犠牲にしてまで成功したいなんて思っていない。

Some of you lost sleep more than you lost success.

成功するより睡眠の方が好きな奴はたくさんいる。

And I’m here to tell you today,

私はこれを伝える為だけに、今日ここに来た。

if your going to be successful

もし本当に成功したいのなら、

you gotta be willing to give up sleep.

睡眠を犠牲にすることをいとわない覚悟をするんだ。

You gotta be willing to work with 3 hours of sleep 2 hours of sleep,

1日2、3時間睡眠で働くこともいとわない。

if you really wanna be successful.

本当に成功したいのなら、

Some day your gonna have to stay up 3 days in a row.

三日連続で起きていなければならないこともあるだろう。

Because if you go to sleep

もし寝てしまえば、

you might miss the opportunity to be successful.

成功するチャンスを逃してしまうかもしれないから。

That’s how bad you gotta want it.

それぐらい強く願わなければならない。

You gotta go days without

LISTEN TO ME!

You gotta want to be successful so bad that you forget to eat.

食事を忘れてしまうほど、成功したいと思えるようになれ。
